Ephesians - Sermon Study #5

Ephesians 2:1-10 is one of the best summaries of problem of humanity and God's gracious rescue mission. It shows how we as fallen creatures were once separated from God, deserving of wrath and dead in our sins. This is the heartbeat of the gospel. Do we ever stop to consider the second most important reconciliation, the reconciliation required for the church to exist?

Ephesians 2:11-22 in many ways mirrors the style and message of the previous section. It presents a different problem solved by the same solution; Jesus. This passage opens up for us an issue we almost never think about but it's one that all Christians should seek to understand if they want to recognise the full glory of Jesus.

Ephesians - Sermon Study #4

Ephesians 2:1-10 is the most well known passages in the New Testament. In it the Apostle Paul outlines the greatest problem to humanity while also revealing God's grand solution. We were dead in our sins but in Jesus we have been made alive. It's by God's grace and his gift of faith that we can be alive in him, with him and for him.

Ephesians - Sermon Study #3

Part of being human is knowing how limited you are, there are certain things we just cannot control, other people being high on that list. Paul, lived with this reality too. Even though he planted the church in Ephesus and saw the Holy Spirit move powerfully there, he knew that things could easily and quickly change. He worried that the church he helped plant could have fallen. This is why he bursts into a prayer of thankfulness when he hears about their faith and love. It's also why he prays that they might continue, that their faith and love would grow as their understanding of God, his power and his purpose for them grew also.

Study 8 - Sloth

Last week marked last topic in our seven deadly sins series in the book of Proverbs. Looking at the sin of sloth we considered how our work for God's kingdom never ends. We were though created to enjoy rest and relaxation. How then do we find the health balance between working hard and enjoying our rest?

Our second last topic in our seven deadly sins series is the topic of gluttony. Eating and drinking is something we do every day but when we let our appetites control us, they become much more than they were ever intended to be.

Our fifth topic in our seven deadly sins series was the concept of lust. Lust is a massive topic in our world today and so thinking through the temptations and implications for our lives is essential for all Christians.
