As our name suggests, the Christian Reformed Church grew out of the split in the 16th Century, between the Protestant Churches and the Roman Catholic Church. This is known as The Reformation. It was instigated by Martin Luther on the 31st October, 1517, and quickly built upon by many others, such as Zwingli, Knox, Cranmer and Calvin. Their faith became known as the “The Reformed faith”, with its teachings grounded in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, which is the Word of God.
Our church fellowship started in 1954. We are part of a group of churches called the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia. This denomination was born in the 1950’s and traces its roots back to the Protestant Reformation, hence our name “Reformed”.
We belong to a world-wide community of Christian Churches which developed from the Reformed and Presbyterian branches of the Reformation. The Christian Reformed Churches now include over 50 congregations around Australia. The denomination operates a Theological College in Geelong as well as various retirement villages around the country.
