It is hard to imagine that someone could come up with a clearer more succinct summary of the nature and work of God than Paul does in Ephesians chapter 1. Having opened it up over the last two weeks, we have scratched the surface of the ideas and history that Paul identifies. 

In chapter two, Paul switches focus. Where it began with God, it now moves to humanity and it's not a pretty picture. The way Paul describes the human condition does not sit well in the modern world, yet it picks up the truth that God's word makes clear. We are dead in our sin, we are nothing.
